Gene's Drinking Evolution

Gene Covington age 16

My first offering and my time to pick on someone. As his is the Youngest of the Old Covington's I choose to pick on Gene Covington.

When I first enlisted in the Navy, Gene was a small child and still sucking the bottle. When I came home in 1946, Keith Holt was running the mail truck. He having arrived home from the service a short time before me. The truck mail run was from Torrey, Utah to Richfield, Utah, then taking the bus to Salt Lake City, Utah and back to Richfield. Then taking the mail truck 60 miles east back to Torrey, Utah.

Keith and I decided to play a trick on the folks. When we got to the Torrey Town sign, he let me out and delivered the mail to the post office at the old store. Then he picked up little Gene and came back to pick me up. We then drove to see the folks, with them not expecting to see me. I don't know if Gene remembered me or not. He had grown up some, but he was wearing bib blue striped overalls. He hadn't give up drinking yet, he was still carrying his bottle and nipple. He was carrying his bottle and nipple in his hind pocket of his overalls, but he had graduated from milk to Coca Cola.
