WAYNE COUNTY, UTAH

Some of you may know Ed (Eddie) White. He was one of the local boys I and Jimmy Webster grew up with there in Wayne County. He lived in a basement house, next to Browns Store. In the winters Ted used to like to spin Dads truck around on the icey road right in front of it. He almost messed up Dales Motorcycle in front of that same area one time when Dale was a courting Bunny. Anyway, Eddie moved away, even before I, did his thing in life and is now back in Wayne County retired, living in a home in Teasdale, he's the Teasdale Fire Chief now -- didn't even know they had a fire truck in all of wayne county, but he sent a picture of it so, guess its true. Turns out his wife knew me in Salt Lake during my High School days as well. Anyway, thought I'd share parts of an e-mail they just sent me, since its oriented around all of our roots and shows you a little bit of what life's like, living there now. They were also nice enough to stop by and look over Dads grave there in Loa on Memorial Day -- As you read their e-mail, I wonder how much a lot goes for at Happy Valley? Love, Uncle Gene

"Hi Gene,

............We did have a great Memorial Day, hope you did, too. We did the Wayne County thing, went to the breakfast at the Civic Center in Loa, visited the cemeteries, etc. While we were at the Loa Cemetery, we saw your dad's grave, someone had put flowers on it.

We've been so, busy, haven't had time to dig out the pictures of Happy Valley, but some day...

I think I forgot to tell you (maybe you already know, and if not, you don't want to know.. but anyway)... They are 'subdividing' Happy Valley, I think either 5 or 10 acre 'lots'. Hate to see it happen. It has been SO HOT here, not like the normal weather. Remember how most Memorial Day weekends, the sprinklers would be frozen, ice on the fences?... not this year...Still working on the garden. I'm real discouraged. The birds ate all my corn and peas... dug down and got it. You can see little foot prints and holes poked all along the rows. How did they know it was there??? I've replanted the corn twice so far, I'll try one more time. We had this weed cloth we put over one row, we'll get more of it, then I'll redo the corn and then the peas. BUT.... the potatoes, weeds, beans, and birds are doing REAL WELL (ha ha)...... The rabbits try to get the beans, but Ed gets out there at daylight with his 22 rifle. We'll see how THAT works....... Well, guess I'll go order a pizza (can you believe we can do that here now?) "
